“It’s About the Animals!”
It’s that time again! Time for another get together.
This meeting will mark our one year of working together.
So mark you calendars for
Saturday, October 23rd.
Meeting Flyer Attachment: I’ve attached an October meeting flyer that you can download, copy and post around your area. Remember to tell a friend, carpool. Make it a fun outing. Please bring a pupu to share if you like.
NEXT MEETING
Our next meeting will be Saturday, October 23rd, 10:00 to 1:00 at Cooper Center on Wright Road in Volcano. Easy to find. Turn on Wright Road off Rt. 11. Cooper Center is past the large covered skateboard court on your right. (approximately one and half blocks.) Sapphire Moon, A telepathic healer and animal communicator will be our guest speaker. Come hear what the animals have to tell us.
We will also be discussing the future direction of Paws Across Hawai’i and about events of the last year and an update on our Humane Education Program. The next part of the meeting will be different and unique. As October is Love-A- Dog Month you are welcome to share anything about dogs. An inspiring story, your passion of working with animals. A joke, riddle, craft, song, skit. It’s your opportunity to share! (It doesn’t have to be about dogs.) Share what ever you like. After our break for networking and food sharing, those interested in the Animal Cruelty legislation committee will have a special meeting conducted by Camille Sigmund on the what needs to be done. Those who do not wish to attend the committee meeting can network/visit if they wish.
In case you missed our August 7th meeting in Naalehu, here is a recap.
Our August meeting welcomed many new faces. Naalehu had a great turnout!
Josi Morgan, the new Executive Director of the Hawaii Island Humane, was our guest speaker. She willing answered many questions from our audience. As she had only been on board for approximately two weeks, she was terrific to come and address our group. Camille Sigmund then made a presentation on the need to coordinate a grass-roots effort to change the animal cruelty laws at the state level. She requested interested people to be on an Animal Cruelty Committee. (nine people signed up.)
We then talked about the next meeting and encouraged participation from all members. We took our food break and rejoined to review the results of June Love-A Cat Month. From three microchip clinics which chipped approximately 95 animals, to increasing the HIHS 2 for 1 cat adoptions by 38% over last year’s adoption − we had a lot of community participation, from veterinarians, vet assistants and approximately 20 businesses that contributed thank you gifts to our volunteer veterinarians and their assistants.
We shared our plans of our new humane education program via our website. The Paw’s Keiki Korner began October 1st. It is currently being promoted through most public libraries and Love-A-Dog Month buttons and bookmarks are given to our children. The Keiki Korner offers kids the opportunity to learn humane values such as compassion, empathy and respect for all life through monthly games, contests and activities. The kids can earn Paw Points which they can redeem for items from our Keiki Kupboard. Check it out! Get kids involved. It is for Pre-K through high school. There is a Doggie Internet Scavenger Hunt for the month of October and there are three versions, elementary, middle and high school. Take it yourself, see how you do!
Hope you can make our next meeting! Bring your ideas and enthusiasm.
REMEMBER A BIG CHUNK OF THE MEETING IS ABOUT YOU AND YOUR PARTICIPATION.
WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
