Kids' Privacy Statement

The Paws Across Hawai'i's Keiki Korner is designed for humane educational purposes only and is devoted to creating a safe environment to teach children humane values such as compassion, empathy and respect for all living things. 

Even though nonprofits are exempt from the requirements of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) passed by Congress in October 1998, we follow the FTC guidelines for compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act and Rule and post our Privacy Policy.

We require verifiable parental permission prior to the collection of any personal information. When a child wishes to compete for Paw Points, have any prizes mailed to them, or submit items such as digital photos and writings to be considered for display in our Keiki Korner, we ask their parents to provide the following information on the Parent's Permission Form:

Child's first and middle initial or username, age, grade level,  gender and child's email address.

We also require one of the parent's name and signature, mailing address for children's prizes and parent's e-mail address.

We request this information regardless of the child's age.

We collect this information only when work is submitted and only for the purpose of acknowledging the child's work if it is displayed or if prizes need to be mailed to the child.

Only the child's first name & middle initial or username, age or grade will be used to identify his or her work on the website.

There is no effort to collect names of children (or adults) visiting the site or sending messages, except in the case of submissions, contests and Paw Point accumulation. A database will be maintained to track the children's scores. E-mail addresses are used to communicate with the child about activity on the site. The children may register with a user name if they desire.

There is no database of visitors maintained and no effort is made to track visitors on the site. There are no "chat rooms" or places where children may engage in instant messaging on the site.

No personal information provided is sold or rented to any third parties. No solicitations will be sent to either children or parents.

There is no commercial intent intended. Any endorsements made regarding books, materials, other web sites, or products are intended to be recommendations based on humane educational quality alone. We do not receive any payments or credits for these endorsements. We respect the privacy of kids who visit the site and make every effort to keep the site "kid friendly" and "commercial free".

We do make extensive use of links to other sites on the World Wide Web. While every effort is made to screen sites used for any heavy commercial advertising or possibly offensive materials, we assume no responsibility for the content of other web sites.
